We understand that sometimes surrendering an animal is truly the best option for the guardian and companion animal. In these situations we do our utmost to ensure that all animals in our care find a responsible, sustainable and loving forever home for the next phase of their lives.
Wildlife Welfare and Advocacy
We work to change the conversation and improve the lives of domesticated animals in Chicago. But there is a whole planet full of species with whom we must peacefully coexist. Our mission extends to promoting awareness of the threats facing this way of life.

History Behind Pet for Paws
Pet for Paws
Established May, 1979
The history: Located in the heart of Chicago, Pet For Paws was established during covid when rescues were overwhelmed by the pandemic. Founder Sam Hardy started saving dogs in his local neighbourhood and finding homes. Once getting the help of local individuals was able to create Pet for Paws.
Pet for Paws in the News
Recently a young pit bull mix named Cody was found chained to a post in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the northside of Chicago. He was malnourished, rake thin and had cigarette burns on his hind. His story was covered on NBC and the Block Club Chicago.
